Entry Requirements

The Tourist Card is a required document for residents of authorized countries to enter the Dominican Republic exclusively for touristic purposes without a visa. It can be obtained at the Dominican Consulates or directly upon arrival at the airports in the Dominican Republic. The cost is US $10 and is valid for 30 days. (Please note that some of the tour operators include the Tourist Card in their packages.)

Residents of the following countries with Diplomatic, Official or Service Passports do not need a tourist card or visa in order to enter the Dominican Republic:

General Rules

  1. All nationals of countries able to legally enter the European Union, the United States, Canada and Britain, may enter the Dominican Republic with the presentation of a Tourism Card. (Decree 691-07 dated December 18, 2007).
  2. All foreigners who enter the Dominican Republic, either with a visa or a tourism card, should be in possession of a valid passport, unless there’s an agreement of Passport suppression with the Dominican Republic.
  3. All foreigners who want to enter the Dominican Republic in business matters must apply for a business visa, single or multiple, in one of our diplomatic and consular missions abroad, regardless of your country being included on the list of countries that can enter the Dominican Republic with just a tourism card, remember that this one can be use for tourism purposes only.
  4. The Dominican consulates will grant the Business visas by the dispositions contained in the resolution of the SEREX # 01-08, dated Feb. 7, 2008.
  5. Applications for visas, will be received and approved solely by the Foreign Ministry under the mechanisms, restrictions and procedures established by the Consular Migration Department.
  6. Should a person need a visa and there is no Dominican consulate in his/her country of residence, should be addressed to the Dominican consular mission in the country nearby.
  7. Should a person want to extend his/her visit while in the Dominican Republic, he/she can go through the offices of the Directorate of Migration and solicit an extension.
