Santo Domingo Colonial Town: an encounter with our past and our culture. The Cathedral, Street Las Damas, the Alcazar de Colón, the Pantheon, the Fortress Ozama and other buildings from 16th century. The visit includes include a stop at the amber museum, cigar shops, and more. The tour will wind up at the “Mercado Modelo”, a local market with a chance for you to purchase some typical craftworks. Columbus Lighthouse and the Aquarium: one of the most recent monuments. It’s very exciting. It’s the place where the remains of Admiral Christopher Columbus are buried. This excursion also includes a visit to the Aquarium, which counts with the most complete variety of the Dominican marine life. "Los Tres Ojos", four underground lakes of sulfured water and three of them are located inside a big cavern, is on the schedule of this dynamic and amusing tour. Duration: 3 hours.
Puerto Plata: the very impressive north coast could be visited from tip-to-toe on this tour, including a stop at the “Monumento” in Santiago. In Puerto Plata you will visit the fortress of San Felipe, the Amber Museum, and the cable car on Isabel de Torres. Lunch included. Duration: full day.
Lake Enriquillo: a tour to the far south, near the Dominican-Haitian border, visiting many of the villages in the surroundings of the lake. There will be stops at La Descubierta and Las Barias for a refreshing swim and at the lake shore, 40 meters below sea level with a subtropical and very dry forest. The Cave of Wonders and Rio Chavon: is the first natural museum of ancient art in the Antilles with a great archaeological value. Then, we’ll have lunch on a boat while sailing on the Chavon River where scenes from movies Apocalypse Now, Rambo and King Kong were shot. Finally, Altos de Chavon, the village of the artists which resembles a Spanish town of the XV century. Duration: full day. Lobster Cocktail (Bayahibe): this is a visit to the East coast of the island in La Romana, passing by the Cave of Wonders, one of the most important testimony with pictographies from the pre-colombine times. Later, a quick stop at Gina Bambu to check and shop some local craftworks. Lunch with lobster at the fishermen’s village of Bayahibe, with the chance for a refreshing swim in one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire island. On the way back, we will make a stop at Altos de Chavon. Duration: full day.
From Barahona
Bahía de las Águilas (“Bay of the Eagles”): a fascinating tour to this beach located at the National Park of Jaragua, the largest in Dominican Republic, in the southwest. An unforgettable experience for those beach lovers of the white sand and crystalline waters that you can only reach via the fishermen settlement called “La Cueva” (the cave). Duration: full day. Lake Enriquillo: discover the Isla Cabritos National Park, which includes the two-hundred square kilometers Lake Enriquillo, forty meters below sea level. The tour gives you the chance to swim not with the crocodiles but in a small river of cold and warm sulfured waters near the lake, very useful in cosmetology to cure skin illnesses. Laguna de Rincón (“Rincón Lagoon”): very near the town of Cabral, a haven for many bird species, such as the native duck and the pink flamingo that you can admire on a 1 ½ -hour boat ride around the lagoon. Then, the Magnetic Pole is scheduled. At noon, lunch is served at Casa Miriam, a private villa inserted in the tropical forest with many natural pools at different levels. Other visits will be to San Rafael and Los Patos, with only 200 meters in length makes it the shortest river on Earth. Duration: full day.
Hoyo de Pelempito: a spectacular view from the top of Sierra de Baoruco National Park, 1500 meters above sea level. There is a wide variety of bird species, like the native parrot and more than 150 species of orchids and other plants.
Laguna de Oviedo: from all the attractions in the southwest the lagoon of Oviedo is probably the best one to observe the country’s most beautiful birds. This lagoon is formed by 40 small keys and each one has become a haven for bird species like the seagull, the pelican and the pink flamingos. At noon, we’ll have lunch at Cayo Las Iguanas, located in the middle of the lagoon and you will have the chance to observe the iguana rinoceronte (iguana rhinoceros) and the iguana ricord; despite their sizes they are quite harmless.
From La Romana
La Romana and the Cave of Wonders: begins with a quick visit to La Romana including the Caribbean’s largest sugar refinery, the duty free zones, a popular market and the central park, then followed by the visit to “La Cueva de las Maravillas” or cave of wonders, the first natural museum of ancient taino artwork in the Antilles, which is found 25 meters below.
