Jarabacoa and Constanza are known as the Dominican Alps, the central mountain region dotted with small hotels and eco-lodges for visitors who are drawn to the majestic green landscapes. Four national parks are juxtaposed in this central mountain area where hiking the highest peaks in the Caribbean can be on the agenda for the physically fit.
Meeting planners can schedule pre or post trips to Salto de Jimenoa waterfall, horse riding along trails lined with tall pine trees, visits to coffee plantations, and even nine holes of golf alongside the forest. River rafting is popular with corporate groups. Participants will return from their experience re-invigorated, understanding the difference that teamwork can make. Canyoning and rappelling are exercises that can help people conquer their fears. Religious and spiritual tourism groups also travel here seeking a retreat in the tranquility of the mountainside.
Forget sophisticated air-conditioned meeting settings. In Jarabacoa and Constanza, the year-round cooler climate means that most group events will be held on large outdoor terraces.
The two mountain destinations are connected by a 14-mile (23km) scenic road.
The closest airport is an hour away in Santiago (STI), but visitors heading to Jarabacoa and Constanza may also consider flying into Puerto Plata’s international airport that is less than 1.5 hours away, or Santo Domingo’s international airport (SDQ) that is 2 hours away.
