Meetings in Santiago

Located in the central Cibao Valley, Santiago is the country’s second largest city and is the central region’s metropolis. With almost one million inhabitants, Santiago has good restaurants, culture, shops and nightlife.

The city’s origins date back to 1495, when Admiral Christopher Columbus built a fort on the banks of the Yaque del Norte River. The city was named “Santiago de los Treinta Caballeros” (caballeros means gentlemen) for the 30 Spanish aristocrats who founded it and formed the original community.

Seriously consider Santiago if the members of your group love cigars. This is cigar territory par excellence, with some of the most famous brands manufactured right here from Dominican tobacco. Be sure to include a visit to the Centro León, for insights into Dominican culture and the cigars making process.

Those choosing Santiago for their meetings can offer pre and post tours to Jarabacoa and Constanza mountain destinations, culture in La Vega, and beaches and culture in Puerto Plata, all less than an hour away.
