This small, shaded square is a favorite of young locals as well as the LGBTQ crowd, who come here throughout the day and night to relax under the shade on multiple benches. A tall, central statue of Juan Pablo Duarte, father of Dominican independence, stands at the center of the park. Hugging the square are a small colmado or corner store, a bicycle rental shop slash bar, and private residences. Parque Duarte gets particularly lively in the evening, when crowds gather here to share a cold beer or drink, and play music from their guitars, drums, or smartphones.
