Barahona and Pedernales, in the southwesternmost corner of the Dominican Republic, are destinations for small meetings and incentive travel. With the exception of the Costa Larimar with 109 rooms, most hotels in this scenic area have less than 20 rooms.
Team-building incentives become memorable in Barahona and Pedernales. The area is known for its extraordinary scenic landscapes, biodiversity, forests, birdwatching and surf beaches. Three good-sized lake and lagoons, Enriquillo, Cabral and Oviedo, offer exceptional nature-watching experiences, including the likely chance of having a close encounter with a crocodile and seeing flamingos in flight.
Intimate weddings are popular here, although guests may have to book several of the small hotels in the vicinity. Inspirational excursions for newlyweds and romantics include the route up the scenic Aceitillar road to the Hoyo de Pelempito viewing point, overlooking an impressive drop, or the boat trip to Bahía de las Aguilas, a truly pristine white sand beach.
Barahona has its own international airport, mostly served by domestic flights. Most people will arrive at Santo Domingo’s Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) and make the three-hour drive to the Dominican Far West.
