Río San Juan Carnival – Carnavarengue 2023
Feb 23 - Feb 26

The Marine Carnival of Río San Juan “Carnamar” is inspired by marine species and takes place at the great wetland of the Grí-Grí Lagoon. The popular celebration is also called “Carnavarengue”.
After the parade in the sea, it concludes with a concert by a merengue band. The masks of the characters or Carnamares are made with great creativity simulating the different marine species, to which shells, corals discarded from the sea, fish scales, shark teeth, among other elements adhere. In the colorful and design of the suits, sleeves like fins of giant fish, spider crabs, crabs, octopus, jellyfish, lobsters and sea monsters stand out, giving life to such a creative and resplendent party. It includes a choreography of troupes, a parade through the town and ends with the selection of the winning troupe on the stage in the waters of the Gri-Grí Lagoon.
