Cachote est un magnifique site protégé de forêt de brouillard, avec un petit village situé à 1 097 mètres d’altitude. Il y a des sentiers sinueux depuis lesquels vous pourrez observer la flore tropicale, ainsi que des chemins de randonnée pour une excellente observation des oiseaux.

Un charmant village côtier de pêcheurs, La Ciénaga offre l’occasion de visiter un atelier faisant des confitures artisanales, en utilisant des fruits frais de la Sierra de Bahoruco, et des randonnées vous conduisant aux grottes et rivières environnantes.

Le Lago Enriquillo est le lac le plus grand et profond au-dessous du niveau de la mer des Caraïbes, idéal pour observer la vie sauvage et explorer la nature. Des excursions en bateau sur le lac et à Isla Cabritos révèlent une importante population de crocodiles américains et de flamants.

Plus grand lagon d’eau douce de la République dominicaine, atteignant 28 kilomètres carrés, la Laguna Rincón abrite une variété de vie sauvage suffisamment riche pour en faire une réserve scientifique protégée, dans laquelle vivent tortues, iguanes, flamants roses, pélicans, hérons et canards de Floride.

Montez de solides marches en bois et explorez les nombreux pétroglyphes sur les parois, des visages suggérant la présence de Taïnos il y a des milliers d’années.

Bordant la mer des Caraïbes, ce grand parc se remplit d’habitants qui viennent ici pour s’accorder un répit du soleil de plomb l’après-midi et respirer la brise assis sur des bancs ou sous les arbres. Une plage se trouve un peu plus loin.

Au cœur des montagnes de Bahoruco, ces mines sont le seul endroit au monde où l’on trouve du larimar, une pierre semi-précieuse, de couleur turquoise. Explorez la zone minière et regardez comment les mineurs émergent des puits – descendant jusqu’à 40 mètres – avec des pierres de laminar brut.
