Santo Domingo, October 1, 2020.- The Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic (MITUR) highlighted that the country has one of the most complete and effective plans in the world to guarantee the safety of visitors and facilitate ease of entry to the Dominican Republic, being the only country that has an international tourist medical assistance plan covered 100 percent by the Dominican government.
As part of the security measures and protocols to ensure the health of both visitors and hotel employees, MITUR validates the operation of all hotels, airports and tourist businesses with international certifications such as Safe Travels and Bureau Veritas. Throughout the country, visitors have fast and unrestricted access to hospital facilities and amenities, likewise, all airports and hotels have implemented protocols for the safe reception of tourists, with areas designated for the care of patients with COVID-19 within hotels.
The Tourist Assistance Plan, that is activated when guests check-in at the hotel, is valid for all international tourists arriving on commercial flights arriving on or before December 31, 2020 and provides complete attention to the visitor with coverage of medical emergencies in the event of a guest contracting COVID-19, outpatient visits, hospitalizations and medicines; prolonged stays due to medical emergencies; specialist care; medicines in case of hospitalizations, a wide variety of health centers throughout the country; transportation in case of emergency; hospital expenses and cost of penalties for flight changes.
In addition, employees have been trained to handle the safety and hygiene protocols implemented for tourist visiting the country as well as for themselves and their families, further guaranteeing the health and safety of all. Hotels are required to regularly conduct tests to monitor staff health and have a quarantine area in case they receive guests with COVID-19.
For MITUR, the well-being and safety of visitors is a priority, and will continue working in coordination with the other relevant authorities to continue strengthening the country’s preventive measures against the coronavirus.
