This three-day event in Ottawa to showcase Dominican culture, business and tourism opportunities with seminars, panels, exhibits and more

Montreal, February 2nd, 2018. Dominican Republic is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean, which has welcomed more than 800,000 Canadian visitors in 2017. For the first time, the Embassy of the Dominican Republic, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism through its promotional offices in Canada will hold a three-day celebration in Ottawa to commemorate the 174th anniversary of its independence. This event will take place from February 27 to March 1, 2018 and will include educational seminars, a culinary festival, cultural exhibitions, business meetings and more.

According to His Excellency, Briunny Garabito Segura, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Canada, the event is a celebration of the strong ties between the two countries. “Canadians have always been important to us in the Dominican Republic. In fact, Canadians were amongst the first repeat visitors to Puerto Plata when our tourism industry was in its infancy. Today, our ties extend far beyond just tourism into the worlds of manufacturing, commerce and agriculture, and there is still much untapped potential. This event is designed to educate and inform our guests about our culture and business opportunities. We are creating the setting for entrepreneurs of the two countries to meet and do business”.

The event will take place at the Sheraton Hotel on Albert Street in Ottawa, just steps from Parliament Hill.  Participants will be invited to participate in seminars and discussion panels about the latest trends in tourism, with a focus on the emerging health and wellness market. Guests will also have the chance to network with Dominican representatives from hotel chains, tour operators, airlines, industrial free zones, exporters and government officials who are flying in for the event. In addition to the formal events, the people of Ottawa will be able to come and visit exhibitions by Dominican artisans or participate in a food festival featuring Mr. Alberto Morel, a renowned Dominican chef who will be creating a special menu for the occasion.

“Anyone who has visited our country knows about our warm hospitality –it is part of our culture.  We look forward to welcoming the people of Ottawa to our event so they can learn more about our country while enjoying our food, culture and music” adds Ambassador Segura.
