Basílica Catedral Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia

Located in nearby Higüey, this cathedral ranks among the top most important religious sites in the DR. Honoring the Virgin of La Altagracia, patron saint of Dominicans, it’s a standout for its 69-meter (225 feet) high arch, with a bronze and gold entrance.

Boca de Yuma

Boca de Yuma offers a daytime escape to a scenic Dominican fishing village. Boasting panoramic cliff top views, it has often been compared to an Italian seaside town, where restaurants, bars, and shacks line up above the sea. The Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León once had a home in the area.

Canopy Adventure

A half-day adventure takes you zipping above the Anamuya jungle, on double ziplines totaling 1,310 meters (4,300 feet) in length, soaring past gigantic trees. Along the way, you’ll cross hanging bridges and enjoy hiking along a range of the park’s native flora and fauna.

Caribbean Buccaneers

Casa Ponce de León

How often do you get to step into the home of a 16th century Spanish explorer? Juan Ponce de León’s residence continues to stand in the southeastern town of San Rafael de Yuma, close to Higüey, where he lived before heading out into the seas to conquer neighboring Puerto Rico.

Chocomuseo

Chocomuseo provides a quick museum-style display and guided tour on the history of Dominican cacao, one of the country’s top-four exports, as well as the chocolate-making process from tree to bar.

Cotubanamá National Park

This is one of the most cave riddled and adventure-packed national parks in the DR counting more than 500 flora species, 300 types of birds, and long stretches of white beaches and islands.
