13th Dominican Global Film Festival

The 13th edition of the Dominican Global Film Festival has Spain as guest country. Spanish productions will be presented at Palacio del Cine BlueMall and during the “Women of Film” event, they will launch “Echoes of Hollywood in Spain, 1914-1936” on January 29 at the Bellapart Museum. The festival is an initiative of the Democracy and Development Global Foundation (FUNGLODE). The line-up of 104 local and international films includes 55 feature films, 18 short films and 15 documentaries. Activities include the sixth Dominican Film Lab from January 29 – 31 and the sixth Coproduction Market DR-Puerto Rico-Cuba from February 1 – 2. In addition, workshops, conferences and talks, with more than 50 guests including exhibitors, producers and directors who will be the speakers. The Festival opening is at 7:00 p.m. on January 27 with the screening of “Mis 500 Locos” by Dominican filmmaker Leticia Tonos at the National Theater. The competition categories are Opera Prima Fiction, Opera Prima Documental Fernando Báez and Global Short Film. Forty-three films are part of the competition, 14 of which are Dominican. “Parasite”, the South Korean film that won the best foreign film Golden Globe Award, will be shown. The festival will close with the screening of the Dominican film “MOSH” by Juan Antonio Bisonó at the National Theater. It aims to promote the Dominican film industry internationally.
