Surfing + Kitesurfing

A top Caribbean destination for wind sports, the DR is ground zero for surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing. Whether novice or expert, there’s a Dominican coastline ideal for your preferred activity. Cabarete’s steady trade winds have earned the beach town its professional kitesurfing reputation, active with certified schools and instructors. Daytime surfing is followed by nightly entertainment to soothe the muscles. Kite Beach attracts the experts, who are a joy to watch. Surfers of all levels flock to Playa Encuentro for lessons from award winning surf instructors. On the Samaná Peninsula, Las Terrenas offers its fair share of kitesurfing at Punta Popy, and surfing at Playa Bonita. In Punta Cana, Macao is renowned for surfing, while Playa Blanca attracts kitesurfers.

Dominican Republic 

Ride the waves to your heart’s content in the number one wind sports coast of the Caribbean.

Hugging a crescent-shaped bay, Sosúa is a beautiful stretch of golden sand contrasting against deep azure-turquoise waters with a white, sandy bottom. It’s also a diver and snorkeler favorite, with easy access to a wide array of sites near shore.
Puerto Plata
This sparkling white to golden beach is long, wide, and boasts wild waves that are perfect for body boarding fun, and surfing in some parts. A number of resorts line Playa Uvero Alto, as well as restaurants and bars.
Punta Cana
Barahona is a prime destination for serious surfers. The recommended beaches are Barranca, Bahoruco, Ciénaga, San Rafael, Paraíso and Los Patos. Several surfing events organized by the Dominican Surfers Federation are held there.
In contrast with Boca Chica, the waves at Playa Caribe, about 10 minutes to the east, swell around noon making it an ideal beach for body or board surfing. This beach is popular with young people from Santo Domingo who come to surf the waves on weekends.

The place to go is scenic Macao Beach. There is a highly rated surf school that is especially active on weekends.
