Canyoning + Rappelling

Rugged rainforests, hidden waterfalls, rocky hills covered in vegetation: you’re never far from a canyoning or rappelling experience in the DR. In fact, both are often combined for an adrenaline-packed adventure that will make you appreciate the grandeur of the DR’s landscape. Head to Puerto Plata, adventure capital of the country, where expert outfitters will take you into a river valley with 46meter (150 feet) rappelling and 18-meter (60-feet) jumps into crystal waters. In Jarabacoa, the scenery gets even more rugged as you go through the canyons of the Baiguate Falls.

Canyoning and rappelling adventures in these north and central regions are accessible from all beach towns, and available year round thanks to our moderate climate at these altitudes.

CANYONING + RAPPELLING IN
Dominican Republic

Descend into riverbeds, rappel down waterfalls, and leap 18-meter (60-foot) down into emerald-colored fresh water pools.

Puerto Plata’s crown jewel attraction offers a day of hiking through thick forest, crossing footbridges and passing numerous flora before eventually reaching a rocky hilltop where you’ll begin making your way down by jumping or sliding down a series of waterfalls!
Puerto Plata
Completely off the beaten track, three waterfalls empty into deep azure pools known as “God’s pool.” You’ll hike for an hour with typical scenes of Puerto Plata village life along the way, and climb up a short series of rocks to the Charcos de Los Militares, where natural river fed pools await.
Puerto Plata
Take the waterfall experience up a notch at Ciguapa–counting a total of six falls and twelve jumps of up to 10 meters (30 feet) high, during a two-hour river expedition. The journey includes a hike through thick jungle before beginning this water-filled expedition.
Puerto Plata
Shaped like a mushroom–rounded at the top and thinning at the bottom–this canyon adventure offers an exhilarating day of canyoning and rappelling in the cool rivers of Cabarete.
Puerto Plata
The perfect waterfall and jade pool await at Salto de Baiguate-cascading down 25 meters (82 feet), tucked below a deep canyon yet easily reached via a series of wooden steps that lead directly to the water.
Jarabacoa
Reaching El Limón waterfall is an adventure that takes you on a 2.5-kilometer (1.5-mile) journey through thick forest, on horseback or on foot down lush hilly terrain, while spotting flora and fauna along the way. You can also go canyoning through El Limón river to reach the falls.
