Dominican Republic’s Central Bank Reports Tourism Recovery Numbers | The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic reported a total of 1,011,224 tourist arrivals during the July-December period, of which 348,464 arrived in December, 100,000 more tourists than the country had initially estimated for the holiday season. These figures reflect significant improvement as well as a continuous trend towards the gradual recovery of the sector. mitur.gob.do

Punta Cana Property Officially Reopens | After temporarily closing due to COVID-19, Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana resort officially reopened in December, completing AMResorts’ reopening of all of the company’s 11 resorts in the Dominican Republic. The all-inclusive, family-friendly resort features 500 rooms and suites in the heart of Bávaro in Punta Cana. Whale Watching Season Begins | From January through March in the Silver Bank and Samaná Bay, wildlife and thrill-seeking enthusiasts can visit Dominican Republic to observe 2,000+ humpback whales that migrate to the Caribbean coast. Dominican Republic’s Silver Bank Sanctuary, situated one hour off the shores of Puerto Plata, is one of only two areas in the entire world where nature lovers can experience an in-water encounter with humpback whales. The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Expects a Rapid Tourism Recovery | The president of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), Pablo Torres, pointed out that the region will experience a faster recovery of tourism than in other parts of the world, justified by the rapid response against the pandemic. The Dominican Republic has shown significant recovery numbers, experiencing a 123 percent increase in December following the reopening of its borders in July. mitur.gob.do
