Samaná showcases its sustainable tourism offerings to Canadian media.

Five Canadian journalists discover a destination where nature, wellness, and authentic experiences converge.

Still largely away from mass tourism, Samaná invites travelers to enjoy a slower pace, reconnect with nature, and discover a destination where pristine beaches, lush mountains, exceptional biodiversity, and sustainable initiatives are part of every experience.

During the trip, the journalists explored some of the most spectacular beaches of the peninsula, including La Playita, Playa Grande, Playa Rincón and El Aserradero, all recognized for their natural beauty.

The itinerary also included a visit to La Fábrica Samaná, a family-owned business dedicated to the production of coffee and cocoa grown in the shade. Shade-grown coffee grows more slowly, requires less water, fertilizers, and pesticides, promotes greater biodiversity, contributes to healthier ecosystems, and helps diversify the income of producers.

The group also explored the Los Haitises National Park, one of the most important ecological reserves in the Dominican Republic, before visiting Cayo Levantado. There they traveled Cayo Levantado Resort and participated in a sound healing session, a wellness activity inspired by the tranquil natural surroundings of the island.

The journalists also got to know the town of Samaná, its marina, and its growing hotel offerings, which include Bannister Hotel, a boutique hotel with views of the Marina Puerto Bahía, and Las Casitas, which reflect the authentic charm of the destination.

The ecotourism experience continued with a visit to the spectacular waterfall. El Limón, organized by Parada La Manzana, a local company that welcomes visitors in small groups and adopts sustainable practices. Its restaurant prepares dishes with locally sourced ingredients, promotes circular economy initiatives, composts organic waste, and collaborates with local businesses on recycling efforts.

Throughout the trip, the group stayed at Viva V Samaná by Wyndham, an exclusive adults-only resort committed to responsible tourism through initiatives such as refillable water stations that reduce the use of single-use plastics, eco-friendly products, and a wellness program that includes yoga classes, bachata classes, cocktail tastings, kayaking, paddleboarding, and archery.

Through this familiarization trip for media, the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic presented Samaná as a destination where travelers can experience the Caribbean in a different way, by connecting with nature, supporting local communities, and adopting more sustainable travel practices.
