Nuestra Señora de los Remedios Church is one of the most important historical and religious landmarks in Azua. Its origins date back to the 16th century, when friars founded the first religious structures of the settlement. Throughout its history, the church has endured looting, earthquakes, and fires, including its destruction after the Haitian withdrawal in 1844. The current building began construction in 1882 under Father Pedro Ramón Suazo and was completed in 1889, with a bell tower and clock added later. Every September 8, the city honors the Virgin of the Remedies with a solemn procession, reaffirming its deep-rooted tradition of faith.
